Red Imported Fire Ants

Red Imported Fire Ants vary in size from one-eighth to three-eighths inches, however worker ants appear in different shapes and sizes. They construct large mounds for nests and administer painful stings. They can be found alongside roads and buildings and in electrical equipment. Females appear to be a red/yellowish color, while males are completely black. This ant is considered to be a notorious pest, causing billions of dollars in damages each year. They build nests under structures such as pavements and foundations, leaving behind major structural problems, sometimes even causing them to collapse. Not only can they damage and destroy structures, but red imported fire ants are also capable of causing severe damage to both equipment and infrastructure, impacting business, land, and property values.

Pavement Ants

Pavement Ants are about one-eighth inch long and have a blackish brown color. They generally make their nests in pavement cracks and are also capable of infesting a building. During early spring, colonies attempt to conquer new areas, and they begin digging out sand between the pavements to vent their nests during the summer.
